These RN to BSN programs typically last 12 to 18 months and provide a faster route for RNs to acquire a BSN degree. The BSN enables the RN to apply for higher level nursing positions within the health care industry.

In order to ensure a bachelor degree qualifies for a nursing position, prospective students should only enroll in an accredited nursing program; an example accreditation agency is the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, or the CCNE.

Evening and Online RN to BSN Degrees

For RNs that are trying to juggle their full-time nursing career with their desire to pursue RN to BSN programs, there are evening classes and online programs available to acclimate to their demanding schedule. Progress in the online education industry has enabled prospective students that could otherwise not pursue a BSN to achieve their goals and advance their profession without sacrificing their current employment through an online RN to BSN degree.

A campus or online RN to BSN degree may later contribute to an MSN in nursing; RNs also have the option of attending RN to MSN programs without the interim BSN education. RN to MSN programs typically take 3-4 years to complete and are considered accelerated learning.
