Aspiring optometrists should take classes in English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Most undergraduates major in chemistry or biology. Despite this high demand, optometry schools still remain extremely competitive, with not as many graduates as there are demand.
Advancement
Optometrists that are interested in teaching or conducting research may pursue a master degree or Ph.D. in visual science, physiological optics, neurophysiology, public health, health administration, or health education. These optometry school degrees may be completed at a campus or online.
